Learning Sign Language Print E-mail
Learning a sign language is like learning any other language. You cannot learn in a week or two. With regular practice and instruction, you can learn to communicate at a basic level after one or two years. Of course some people learn languages faster than others. To learn, you must be patient, accept frustration, and, most importantly, use it regularly.

Kenyan Sign Language is taught by various organisations and privately by a number of deaf individuals throughout Kenya. Other places where you can learn sign language include deaf churches or places where deaf people socialize. For more information, contact the Kenyan National Association for the Deaf, or members of the local deaf community.

Resources are being developed to teach KSL. Various matierals are available from Kenyan Sign Language Research Project, including a KSL Dictionary, available both in paperback and on CD. For more information, contact KSLRP.
